July Activities
The July 20 2016 Meeting featured President Alysson's maiden address.

Our new President was introduced by her father, Past President Tom Storey - one of a bevy of Rotarians present and past in Alysson's clan, and including her husband. In the packed audience were her mother Cindy, brother/Past President Brad Langford and his wife Laurie, visiting Rotarians Steve Barber from Florida, AG Don Jackson from the Blenheim Club, Susan Bechard from Rotary Sunrise and notable Chatham Rotarians AG Sparky Leonard and DGE Barry Fraser (who formally installed the new executive and board of directors; see the front page of chathamrotary.com for list).

President Alysson had previously talked about the current committee structure (see appended to this Bulletin) and now spoke about her plans for strong club structures, opportunities for membership in e-groups covering common interests, and that she is open and welcoming for ideas from the membership. Showing some slides of Club demographics and the large group of veteran members, Alysson reminced  that a co-Club member and friend of her grandfather Past President Joe Storey, Past President Herb Todgham, suggested that she join Rotary and was her Sponsor in 2009.

After hitting the previous year high spots - the Beach Boys and successful Hospice contribution, the District Conference in Chatham, moving to the Links of Kent and advancement and cooperative efforts in Youth Mental Health, Alysson took the opportunity to announce the Speaker for the 2016 Banquet (watch the web site and facebook for details) and to announce 150 Acts of Service. In honour of Canada's Sesquicentennial the Club is challenged do just that during this Rotary year. Again, follow the web and Facebook for progress.

Outbound Exchange Students Presented July 20 2016

Also at the July 20 meeting, DG Elect Barry Fraser introduced 2 outbounds and gave them Club Banners for presentation within their guest Districts. This year we have Jacklyn Janssen who is going to Belgium as part of the Rotary Youth Exchange program. Jacklyn was accompanied by her father Richard Janssen. Outbound to France is Rachel Bultje who was accompanied by her mother Jackie Bultje.

They seem like great ambassadors of our Club, C-K and Canada abroad. Thanks to the Chairs and hard-working members of the RYE Incoming and Outgoing Committees, keeping Chatham in the forefront of youth exchange in our District.

On July 6 Rotarian David Barr stepped in.

Stepping to the podium after an introduction by Peter Tanner, David was easily able to fill the hour with his photographs and the stories behind them. Originally from Glasgow, David started his career in commercial photography with British Airways and continued in this enviable and creative line with numerous companies in Canada.  He summered in Rondeau for years, now lives in Morpeth, has taken thousands of photos  there, published a book on Rondeau! and initially planned to show some of these works.

And, so he did - see below, but David also showed a fascinating array of pictures made for a wide range of agricultural publications and associations. David may have thought that this would suffice as his Classification Talk- but maybe not!
